Fill the Backpack Challenge Supports Children and Families

Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) currently serves over 3,000 youth in foster care and provides assistance to an additional 3,000 youth. The 2020 Fill the Backpack Challenge aims to help them feel prepared and ready to learn. 

We have set a goal of delivering 1,200 pre-packed backpacks to youth and rely on the support of our community to help every child. Right now because of the impact of COVID-19 many of our usual donors are not able to help. 

That’s where you come in. 

You can donate a pre-packed backpack filled with supplies, including:  

  • Facemask(s) 

  • Pens and pencils 

  • Notebooks 

  • Markers, crayons, and colored pencils 

  • Folders 

  • Paper 

  • Index cards 

  • Binders 

  • Scissors 

  • Calculators 

  • Headphones 

By pre-packing the backpack, you can help DCFS follow social distancing guidelines for distribution. Donations can be dropped off or shipped to:
