Client & Family Rights


Mother and 3 children posing with stuffed animalAll parents and caregivers involved with the Division of Children and Family Services have rights. They include the right to:
  • Know the nature of any report concerning your child.
  • Know how the assessment will be conducted and how long it will take.
  • Know the suspected harm or risk to your child.
  • Know what the assessment found and what will happen next.
  • Receive communication assistance if you have special needs.
  • Request information in your native language and request an interpreter.
  • Refuse services at any time.

Children also have rights, including the right to be nurtured and live safely in their homes. Children who are subject to a court order related to child protection have additional rights.
